US Army 24-Pounder Siege Gun, Pattern 1819, is displayed at Shiloh National Military Park
Many thanks to friend-of-the-page, James Murray, for sharing the photos in this post!
Two US Army 24-Pounders, Pattern 1819, are among the many artillery pieces which may be seen at Shiloh National Military Park. The two pictured here are:
US Army 24-Pounder, Pattern 1819, West Point Foundry Registry Number 185, cast in 1828. Weight as manufactured 5,535 pounds. This 24-Pounder is typical of the earlier examples of the series: it is missing the sight block of later production guns. It is mounted on a siege and garrison carriage which has been deployed to fire.
US Army 24-Pounder, Pattern 1819, Fort Pitt Foundry Registry Number 83, cast in 1837. (It is marked as being cast at MCClurg, Wade and Company, Pennsylvania Penn Foundry.) Weight as manufactured 5,520 pounds. Note: In the registry printed in Olmstead et al., this gun was listed as present at Fort Pulaski. This 24-Pounder has a sight block on its breech. It is mounted on a siege and garrison carriage with the tube in the travelling position with the limber attached to the carriage.
