US Navy 9-Inch Dahglren Number 1006 is displayed at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division. These photos were taken by Haze Grey History in 2023. Many thanks for the permission to share them here.
9-Inch Number 1006 was manufactured at Fort Pitt Foundry in 1864. As manufactured, Number 1006 weighed 9,210 pounds. It may not have seen any service until it was placed aboard USS Brooklyn in 1870. It served aboard Brooklyn for her 1870 to 1873 assignment to the European Station and her 1873 to 1876 commission which saw her serve both in home waters and as flagship of the South Atlantic Station (on the coast of Brazil). No further sea service is noted in the Bureau of Ordnance Records. It was transferred to the Bureau of Yards and Docks in 1904, and it bears very visible signs of having been used as a bollard: the bar running through the chase and the deterioration at the cascabel.
USS Brooklyn photographed sometime between 1870 and 1876 when she had a complete spar deck. Naval History and Heritage Command Photo 93917.
