US Navy 8-Inch Shell Gun in Warren, Ohio
US Navy 8-Inch Shell Gun of 6,500 Pounds Number 119 is displayed at the Trumbull County Veterans Memorial in Warren, Ohio. Number 119 was manufactured by Cyrus Alger and Company in 1865. It may not have seen any service afloat until 1883 when it was placed aboard USS Jamestown.
US Navy 30-Pounder Parrott Rifle of USS Banshee in Wauseon, Ohio
US Navy 30-Pounder Parrott Rifle Number 323 is displayed on the Fulton County Courthouse lawn in Wauseon, Ohio. It was manufactured at the West Point Foundry in 1864 and originally weighed 3,492 pounds. US Navy Bureau of Ordnance Records indicate that it served aboard USS Banshee during the American Civil War and aboard the tugboat USS Fortune in the early 1870s. It was loaned to the city of Archbold, Ohio in 1899.
US Navy 20-Pounder Parrott Rifles in Salem, Ohio
Two US Navy 20-Pounder Parrott Rifles are displayed in Salem, Ohio:
US Navy 20-Pounder Parrott Rifle Number 130 which was cast at West Point Foundry in 1862. As manufactured it weighed 1,775 pounds. US Navy records show that it served aboard USS San Jacinto at some point following her 1862 refit until she wrecked in 1865. It was fired only 15 times through February of 1865.
US Navy 20-Pounder Parrott Rifle Number 258 which was cast in 1863 at West Point Foundry. As manufactured it weighed 1,730 pounds. US Navy records show that it served on USS Union.
US Navy 32-Pounder of 4,500 Pounds of USS Santee in Paris, Ohio
US Navy 32-Pounder of 4,500 Pounds Number 52 is displayed in Paris, Ohio. Number 52 was cast at Fort Pitt Foundry in 1864 and is marked as weighing 4,460 pounds. US Navy records show that it was placed aboard the training frigate USS Santee in 1867. In December of 1882 it was moved to the training ship USS Wyoming. In May of 1898 it was loaned to the Paris Memorial Association in Paris, Ohio.
US Navy 20-Pounder Parrotts in Wooster, Ohio

The two Parrotts are:
US Navy 20-Pounder Parrott Number 269 which was manufactured at the West Point Foundry in 1864. Weight as manufactured was 1720 pounds.
US Navy 20-Pounder Parrott Number 271 which was manufactured at the West Point Foundry in 1864. Weight as manufactured was 1736 pounds.
Records show that both of these 20-Pounders served aboard USS Pensacola.
US Army 10-Inch Rodmans in Sullivan, Ohio
Two US Army 10-Inch Rodmans, Pattern 1861 are displayed in Sullivan, Ohio. Both were cast at Fort Pitt Foundry in 1865. They were placed as a monument to the "Dead Heroes of Sullivan Township” in 1906.
US Army 8-Inch Siege Mortars in Oregon, Ohio
Two US Army 8-Inch Siege Mortars, Pattern 1861, are displayed at Willow Cemetery in Oregon, Ohio. Many thanks to friend-of-the-page Phil Spaugy for sharing the photos!
The two mortars were both cast at Fort Pitt Foundry in 1864. They bear the consecutive registry numbers 46 and 47. They are both marked as weighing 1,020 pounds, and they also both appear to be on original carriages. They flank a monument dedicated in 1882.
US Army 8-Inch Rifle in Zanesville, Ohio
US Army 8-Inch Muzzle Loading Rifle Number 12 in Zanesville, Ohio. This 8-Inch MLR is from the first series of 10-Inch Rodman smoothbores converted in 1876. This Rodman was Cyrus Alger 10-Inch Number 21 cast in 1865. As originally manufactured, it weighed 15,080 pounds. In 1876 it was taken to the West Point Foundry where the original 10-Inch bore was reamed out to 13.5-inches. Then the rifled sleeve was inserted into the enlarged bore. The finished 8-Inch Rifle had a total weight of 16,050 pounds.
USS Seneca’s 11-Inch Dahlgren in Holgate, Ohio
US Navy 11-Inch Dahlgren Number 313 was cast by Hinkley, Williams, and Company in 1863. In 1864 it was mounted aboard the "90 Day Gunboat" USS Seneca after that ship's 1864 refit. This Dahlgren would fire over 300 shells at Fort Fisher during the First and Second Battles in December 1864 and January 1865. It is displayed in Holgate, Ohio in front of the historic firehouse.
30-Pounder Parrott in Cincinnati, Ohio
A 30-Pounder Parrott mounted on a reproduction Marsilly style carriage is displayed at Washington Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. This Parrott seems to have a late-production extension to its breeching block for connection to an elevating screw. Many thanks to Ferd454231 for the photos of this Parrott!
